Splicing
Now that you've practiced getting started, I want to show you how to splice the next length of yarn on so you can work a longer row, and ultimately, the hat.
This first video shows the traditional way to splice a singles wool yarn. I demonstrate using a little bowl of water, but you can also use saliva to moisten the wool before felting it. Whichever you prefer!
This second video shows the method I use to splice yarn when I am using a plied yarn. Since I strongly recommended you use a singles yarn for this tutorial, you won't need this technique right now. But if you decide after working thru the basics and making a hat using the type of yarn I recommended learning on to try another hat or headband using a plied yarn, here is how you would splice that:
